Sunday, November 11, 2018 marks 100 years since Armistice Day and the end of the First World War, making it an extra special Remembrance Day. Find out how industry-leading franchises are commemorating the day in this week’s Friday Franchising News.

Signs Express Assists in Installing an Outstanding Remembrance Memorial

Signs Express (Central Lancashire) just finished assisting Blackpool Teaching Hospital’s NHS Foundation Trust in installing a 5:1 scale replica of the Menin Gate Memorial to the missing, flowered in over 30,000 hand-knitted poppies. The original war memorial installed in Belgium is dedicated to the British and Commonwealth soldiers, whose graves are unknown, who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I. The Central Lancashire branch has worked with the Blackpool Teaching Hospital’s NHS Foundation before on two prominent projects, so both parties were thrilled by the Remembrance Day partnership. Despite running into a few challenges, the week-long operation turned out to be a huge success. The memorial will be on display for the Remembrance service at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on November 9th between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Seniors Helping Seniors Takes Clients on a Trip to WWI Memorials

This past week, Seniors Helping Seniors UK posted on social media offering to take clients for an outing to the #ThereButNotThere silhouette sculptures sited all over the country. The powerful memorials commemorate those who fell in the First World War. #ThereButNotThere has been a successful social media campaign, and the senior care franchise reaches many of its customers through social media and initiatives like this one that matter to senior citizens. The franchise’s Facebook post that included the offer garnered a lot of interest, and the senior care franchise was able to provide wonderful outings for many of their clients to get out, enjoy the fresh air, and pay their respects. Seniors Helping Seniors has now thrown its weight behind a campaign to petition the HM Revenue & Customs against taxing people donating to the charity.

Barking Mad Remembers the Canines from World War I

Dog sitting franchise Barking Mad is inviting people to remember the dogs that were involved in the First World War. This Remembrance Day, Barking Mad, Norwich is celebrating the role our canine friends played in World War One by founding the UK’s first annual Dog Remembrance Month. Events for the celebration include memory walks and coffee mornings. There has also been a Facebook group, the Dog Bereavement and Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Group with more than 1,100 members, for those who have lost a beloved pet. The pet franchise has also been working with disability and specially trained assistance dog charity group Dogs for Good to sponsor an assistance dong in training named Prince. This month-long championing of the benefits of dog companionship is an excellent way to honour those dogs who served as sentry dogs, casualty dogs, messengers, and comfort dogs during the First World War.
