Franchisor Q&A Cover Image

🕒 Estimated reading time: 3 min.

SkyCam have taken the UK by storm with their innovative drone hire business. Drone use is becoming increasingly popular and it's easy to see why. High-quality videos and images can be captured from places that were only previously accessible by plane or helicopter. After an initial risk assessment, they are quick and easy to set up as well, so it can be a very profitable business. Drones are particularly useful for anyone performing tasks such as surveying rooftops and land surveys.

For anyone seeking an investment opportunity where no two days are the same, look no further. SkyCam have franchise opportunities that are available worldwide and their investment fee is just £4,900. What could be better? In this month's Franchisor Q&A, SkyCam discuss the training offered to prospective franchisees, the kind of work their franchisees are currently involved in and the best feedback they have heard about their brand.

Is photography experience required to become a SkyCam franchisee?

Like any franchise, the franchisee will need to learn the trade. This franchise is great for men and women of all ages who are willing to practice and follow our advice. The drone that comes with the franchise is very high spec and easy to fly with the correct guidance and practice.

What qualifications do franchisees receive during the training process?

Our franchisees are offered 2 options with their training. They can either work from home or attend a site for training. Upon completion they acquire a PFCO pilots licence, enabling them to fly their drone commercially.

What is the most exciting job a franchisee has had recently?

We have many exciting stories we can share about the kind of work that our franchisees have been involved in, such as Channel 4 news, Sky TV, BT Sports and so much more. A more recent fantastic job that came in via head office was a request from a local authority for our franchisees to supply 10 drones and pilots to work alongside the police supporting the security for an Ed Sheeran concert.

Franchisor Q&A (#16): SkyCam

When was the SkyCam brand established?

The brand was established some 6 years ago now.

Describe an average day in the life of a SkyCam franchisee.

A site survey will need to be carried out to assess any potential risks and possible issues when flying a drone in the area. Once the risk assessment is completed, the fun part begins. Once the drone is set up and ready for launch (sometimes using a drone take-off and landing pad) it will be ready for take-off. The client may on occasion wish to stand beside you, purely out of excitement of seeing the drone in action as this always brings the kid out in people plus it gives you the opportunity to show the client your ‘live’ images that the drone is seeing, allowing the client to choose the best angle or view prior to taking the snaps or footage. The whole flight and photograph process takes typically less than 20 minutes before a franchisee takes the footage back home where it would be taken from the memory card of the drone and uploaded to a shared cloud drive ready for the client.

What is the best feedback you've heard about the SkyCam brand?

We are proud to say that SkyCam is trademarked and protected, against the odds, as it is such a great name and brand that many others have tried and failed to trademark. We receive countless feedback from franchisees and others who simply love the brand and name we have and love being a part of it. We are often approached by other drone course and equipment suppliers who wish to be associated with our brand and partner with our services. Our most recent affiliation has been with ‘Pro Drone Academy’.
