What motivated you to choose NIC Local and purchase a resale franchise?
As locals to Cumbria, we’re thrilled to continue this trusted commercial cleaning service and serve businesses in our community.
Our decision to choose NIC Local was driven by our desire to own a business that is already trusted within the area. We’ve always been passionate about supporting local businesses, and NIC Local’s strong reputation for high-quality commercial cleaning services was a perfect fit for us. The opportunity to serve the area we love, while providing reliable and professional services, made this an easy choice.

Can you share a bit about your professional background and why you chose to buy a business in Cumbria?
Gary: I have a long history within Rugby League, having played, coached, and been Director of Rugby for Workington Town RLFC. Throughout my career, I’ve developed strong leadership and team-building skills, as well as a deep connection to the local community. The opportunity to apply these skills in a business that serves the area felt like a natural next step for me.
Alison: I have spent many years as a dental practice manager here in Cumbria. My experience in managing a healthcare business has taught me the importance of trust, attention to detail and exceptional customer service, all qualities that align perfectly with NIC Local’s approach to commercial cleaning.
What factors influenced your decision to buy an existing franchise?
When we were deciding whether to buy an existing NIC Local franchise or start a greenfield site from scratch, several key factors influenced our decision to go with an existing business.
First, buying an existing franchise gave us the advantage of stepping into a proven business model. The groundwork had already been laid, and we didn’t have to start from zero. This meant we could hit the ground running, leveraging an established brand, customer base, and operational systems. It provided us with a sense of security, knowing that NIC Local has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality commercial cleaning services.
Another big factor was the support and training offered by NIC Local. As a resale franchise, we had the opportunity to learn from the previous owner’s experience, helping us avoid some of the typical challenges that come with starting a business from scratch. The support network also helped ease our transition, ensuring that we could maintain continuity for existing customers while bringing our own fresh ideas to the table.
Lastly, being locals, we saw this as a fantastic opportunity to take over an established business and continue its success, rather than starting a brand-new venture in an unfamiliar territory. The ability to tap into the existing customer relationships and the goodwill built by the previous owner gave us confidence that we could continue growing the business in a way that benefits both us and the local community.
Ultimately, buying an existing franchise allowed us to combine the strengths of a well-established business with our own local knowledge and expertise. It was the perfect balance for us.

Long-term, we envision expanding the franchise by adding more clients, hiring additional staff, and becoming a trusted leader in the local commercial cleaning market. Our goal is to consistently improve and contribute to the overall growth and success of the NIC Local brand and our business and to develop new employment opportunities in the local area
