About Lawnkeeper

Established in 1995 Lawnkeeper expanded to a franchise opportunity in 2007 and now operates right across the UK, with franchises from Aylesbury to Airedale, and from Worcester to Peterborough. We are currently looking for even more highly motivated individuals to help us expand the franchise into territories throughout the country.

The Lawnkeeper franchise is a van based business designed to be run from home.

The Market:

The UK Lawn Care market still has huge untapped potential. We are actively seeking new, energetic, partners to join our existing network and help to roll out our brand to the millions of customers across the UK who are yet to benefit from Lawnkeeper’s superior service.

For the right candidates, this is an opportunity to grow a business from a one man company into a highly lucrative multi-van operation. The only limit is your ambition!

  • The reputation of a market-leading brand known for fantastic customer service
  • Full training and certification as a lawn care expert
  • Access to the best equipment and supplies in the industry
  • Your own large, protected territory with up to 100,000 potential customers
  • Full marketing support to help you hit the ground running from day one
  • A better work-life balance, where you set your own schedule

Who Are We Looking For?

No experience in lawn care, or even gardening, is needed in order for you to benefit from what a Lawnkeeper franchise can offer; you don’t need any previous experience in running a business before either! Naturally, these would be a huge advantage, but our training programme is designed to give you everything you need, and our business model has been perfected to the point where virtually anyone can replicate it for themselves.

You will need to be reasonably physically fit to carry out the service, of course, but apart from that we welcome new partners of all ages and backgrounds.

We believe the perfect Lawnkeeper franchisee is someone who is:

  • Organised & Highly Motivated
  • A Great Communicator
  • A Good Team Player

You will need to follow the systems that the Lawnkeeper business model lays out for you, and play your part in growing the reputation of the brand. Likewise, the Lawnkeeper network will always be there for you when you need it. Your success is our success, after all!

The Role of a Lawnkeeper Franchisee…

As a franchisee you will be providing a service which is primarily based around a 5 times a year ‘weed and feed’ service that is applied to a customer’s lawn using professional spreading and spraying equipment.

You will be able to offer a wide range of services designed to improve your customers’ gardens, as well as providing solutions for a variety of lawn problems such as weather and seasonal damage, patchy growth, discoloration, and all manner of invasive flora, fungus, and pests.

Lawnkeeper Support & Training:

Our comprehensive training programme is designed to, not only, teach you everything you need to know to become a local lawn care specialist, but also, how to run a successful business by using our tried and tested business model.

Your training will be led by Lawnkeeper Director & Founder, Sam Langrick, who has close to 30 years’ experience in running a successful lawn care business.

The training takes place at Lawnkeeper HQ in Yorkshire and will be a mix of both practical and theory, including:
  • An Introduction To Lawnkeeper
  • How To Provide A High-Quality Lawn Care Service
  • Business Operations
  • Marketing
  • Health & Safety

Your training and your business launch are just the beginning of what we offer you as our partner. We continue to guide you throughout our journey together, and will be available to you any time you need advice or guidance.

Your Investment

The Lawnkeeper Franchisee Fee is from £9,700 + VAT *training and licence fee

Which means that your liquid cash requirement could be as low as £9,700 with funding support being available via third parties OR you may even qualify for the Government Backed Business Start-Up Scheme which allows you to borrow up to £25,000 without investing any money of your own. This figure doubles, if the business has two Directors and we are more than happy to discuss this option in more detail with you.

Franchise Package

Franchise package starts with the franchise fee of £9,700, but then is broken down into the other costs related to starting the business that you need to consider and are down to your own individual plans and circumstances. These are discussed during the research process.
  1. Set Up Equipment, Uniforms and PPE. *approx. £10,000
  2. Marketing costs (marketing and stationary initial package and then a menu option of Royal Mail leaflets delivered or doing it yourself)
  3. Vehicle costs. Ford Transit Custom needed. Your choice to whether you purchase outright, have some finance funding and buy a new or used vehicle.
Working Capital requirements – it depends how much you need to cover the initial running costs of the business and what you might need to take out of the business to cover your home life. It's important to build this into your financial modelling. These are all things discussed during the fact finding process with the Lawnkeeper team.

Meet our franchisees | Nigel, Lawnkeeper Aylesbury

Lawnkeeper Image

Nigel is one of the longest standing franchisees with Lawnkeeper, having opened his new business in Aylesbury back in 2014. However, before that, he worked in a number of high-end media roles, including producing multi-media guides for museums and art galleries, and even 25 years at the BBC.

Feeling the need for a change after so long in one career, Nigel was determined the next phase of his life would be defined by running his own company, and doing something completely different. However, he did not have a clear idea of what this should be - at least, at first.

“I didn’t have a big new idea or new product in mind, so I started looking at a lot of different options.” Nigel told us. “However, I really wanted to be sure it was something I enjoyed doing, and I always found gardening and looking after my lawn very satisfying. I wanted to be outdoors and not be doing any more long commutes. Most of all, I didn’t want to be in the corporate world anymore, and I wanted to be my own boss.”

When Nigel discovered the Lawnkeeper franchise, his first step was to spend some time talking with founder, Sam, and he immediately felt this was something he could do. He was attracted by the business model and how it could give him the new life he was after, but also by the reduced risk being part of a franchise could offer him.

“Because it was a franchise, it never felt like I was doing something risky and crazy. Everything has gone according to plan – in fact, it’s gone even better than we planned! With Lawnkeeper, I feel like I am truly seeing all the benefits of my hard work and effort. I also really enjoy seeing the results of my work on people’s lawns. It is very satisfying!”

For Nigel, joining the Lawnkeeper franchise has been an investment that has continued to pay off year after year. Lawnkeeper territories are calculated to allow not only for plenty of customers for your initial operation, but with a large enough potential customer base to keep expanding for many years to come. In 2018, Nigel took on a new employee and bought a second van to start making more of the increased demand he was receiving. Once word spreads about what a Lawnkeeper expert can do, there are more than enough customers out there in each territory to expand to a very lucrative multi-van operation.

“This autumn, we reached the point where we have actually stopped taking on new customers for the time being. Our books are full! Until we decide to grow again, we are just taking names and numbers to follow up in spring when the days are longer and we can fit more in. In this business, there is always plenty of work year round.

“Business has continued to grow steadily for us every year. We thought Covid was going to be a problem, but other than stopping for the first few weeks in lockdown, customers were more than happy to keep going with our services.”

Many home services have seen a boom over recent years, fuelled by people spending time at home during the pandemic. However, unlike many other home services, lawn care is not an expensive luxury by any measure, so is not affected by uncertainty in the economy. People value their homes and gardens more than ever before and continue to be happy to spend a small amount every month to make sure they have a space to live and work in that both looks and feels great. It can even keep up the value of their homes, as a beautifully kept lawn has a huge effect on how buyers perceive value. So, whether they are planning to stay or move in the near future, lawn care is a very affordable investment which always pays off!

“Customers keep coming back to us because they know they are always dealing with someone who knows them, and knows their lawn. A friendly face they can always count on. The service they can expect from a smaller, more personal, lawn care company is always going to be better than some relatively unknown lawn technician coming in from a big company who changes every month and doesn’t understand what they need. We’re personally invested in everything we do, and that really shines through in how we take care of our customers’ lawns.”

With this kind of attitude, and the backing and support of the wider Lawnkeeper network behind him, we’re sure the next few years for Nigel will be as good as his first eight, if not better!

If you’re looking for a new career which can deliver an excellent work-life balance and job satisfaction, not to mention fantastic returns on your investment for many years to come, a Lawnkeeper franchise might be just the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!
