Successful franchisees come from a wide range of backgrounds, ages and experiences

Having a financial background is essential – the focus is on advising and supporting clients while your tech and team do the number crunching.
The Market
With the loss of the traditional bank manager and other advisory organisations, there is a gap that TaxAssist franchises are filling, as people seek a local trusted advisor for their business and personal financial affairs.

Why franchising is key to the success of TaxAssist Accountants
The TaxAssist Group’s strategic plan remains focused on growth of franchised business.
James Mattam, Group Business Development Director explains why TaxAssist’s focus has always been, and will always be to support franchisee growth, profitability and expansion.
“Franchising is a fantastic business model to maximise growth potential to the mutual advantage of both parties. It is a proven, tried and tested route into self-employment with a much higher success rate than going into business alone,” said James, who has been a part of TaxAssist, and the franchise sector for over 25 years.
TaxAssist Accountants is an experienced franchisor and long-standing full member of The British Franchise Association. In 2025 the franchise will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its founding.
“The Support Centre teams thrive off helping franchisees grow their practices. They know that delivering support services has a direct impact on practice growth which in turn generates income for the franchisor. Our success only comes once the franchisees are successful, which makes the model a force to be reckoned with when it comes to offering a first-class tax and accounting service."
Over the last few years, The Group has innovated by introducing complementary services to support franchisees, win new clients and create new fee opportunities. It has also launched a company owned practice in central London and more recently acquired a majority stake in the largest TaxAssist Accountants franchisee practice in its network.
“These new initiatives provide additional income streams and support our ongoing development and improvement of the services we provide to our franchisees. They will create the opportunity to develop and test ideas and experiences and refine processes in a live practice environment, which can then be shared along the way so all franchisees can benefit. These centres of excellence will improve the development of each franchise across the UK and grow further value for the group.
“We will look to develop the group further over time, but our franchisees will be at the core of everything we do,” states James.
“We currently have almost 250 territories covered in the UK, but still have more than 100 available, so we are actively looking to grow our franchise network further.
“Alongside our recent brand refresh, we have redesigned our initial training course which means we have been able to adjust our franchise joining fees, so now is the time to contact us to find out if your preferred exclusive territory is available.”
TaxAssist Accountants, the UK’s largest network for small and medium-sized businesses, provides tax advice, accountancy services, payroll, bookkeeping, and tax savings. It serves over 81,000 recurring clients plus tens of thousands of customers who need personal tax services through more than 400 locations nationwide.
"The TaxAssist Group is more than 50% owned by franchisees, with all new TaxAssist Accountants given the opportunity to become a shareholder and share in the growth as a network. Franchisee success drives Group success and we recognise that this relationship is unique where value can be positively affected by driving each practice forward."

Being part of a franchise network is the best of both worlds... I get to make my own decisions about the business and yet we are part of this massive network made up of the very supportive franchisor, directors and staff, as well as the other franchisees
I am happy to report that I now have over 400 clients, which generate an income and flexibility in how I work that could not have been achieved on the corporate ladder I stepped off. Further, I know that the practice will be a valuable asset for my future when the time is right. The shops, along with my own marketing, and the initiatives of the TaxAssist Support Centre Team, have proved invaluable in helping me to build a substantial practice.
I looked at a variety of businesses within franchising but none of them gave me that spark until I looked at TaxAssist Accountants. I felt I could use my experience gained from working within a professional accountancy practice, and I very much enjoyed the buzz associated with helping small businesses.
