As one of the original burger restaurants, Wimpy was first established in Indiana, United States, in 1934. The licence was sold in the UK to J.Lyons and Co, which led to the opening of the first Wimpy in London in 1954. Lyons controlled global franchising in the 1970’s. The company is currently headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of Famous Brands. Wimpy serves a varied menu of burgers (whether meaty or vegetarian), breakfast grills, chips, jacket potatoes, salads, as well as drinks, shakes and desserts.
