Stuart looks back on his journey to becoming a Husse franchisee

The Beginning

I was impressed from the start; calls were answered straight away and the discovery interview was set up promptly.

This aligns fully to how I like to work - as in “hitting the ground running”.

I also did a lot of research and spoke to several franchisees which gave me some confidence especially starting so late in December then heading into the dreaded January period.

The training was very good (albeit there is a lot crammed into two days) and I felt far more knowledgeable at the end.

I’m also studying for the Canine Nutrition Diploma through the Centre of Excellence.

My background

I have worked in operations at very senior levels including being the Ops Director of a FTSE 250 company.

In my latter years I got very interested in data and eventually formed my own data company turning operational data into actionable insights.

I was then headhunted and ended up going back into a PAYE position but as an Analyst.

I now work P/T as a Business Analyst so that I have time to drive the business. In time, and once I have an established customer base, I intend to resign and fully focus on the business.

I also went to college the last two years and have AAT levels 2 & 3 (Diploma) in accounting which is very handy when you’re running your own business.

Interest in Pet Food

I have always had dogs as I love them more than humans.

As I’m probably into my last 10-15 years of working life I wanted to something I’d enjoy. I challenged myself to really work out what I’d enjoy and the answer was dealing with dogs.

This industry would be the perfect fit due to the interaction with customers, attending fetes, shows and also being able to bolt other pet-related business on e.g. market stalls.

My background in franchising helped me to decide on the best option for me. There are definitely franchises out there where I could get a quicker/better return, however it would drain my soul.
