Two new franchisees join Kitchen Makeovers in search of a more fulfilling career
Home improvement franchise Kitchen Makeovers has welcomed two new franchisees to its growing network, both leaving behind long-standing careers in search of a more fulfilling professional future.
Despite coming from very different backgrounds, both Steve Hanrahan and Dean Gregory were drawn to the flexibility, independence and supportive structure offered by the Kitchen Makeovers franchise model as they looked to take the next step in their careers.
“We’re seeing more people reach a stage where they want something different from their working lives,” said Will Frankling, Co-founder of Kitchen Makeovers. “For Steve and Dean, this wasn’t about starting over - it was about applying the skills and experience they’d already built in a new environment that offers more enjoyment, control and long-term satisfaction.”
Launching Kitchen Makeovers Chelmsford is 54-year-old Steve, who has spent nearly two decades working in tech sales. Although successful in the sector, Steve admitted he had become increasingly unfulfilled and began searching for a business opportunity that felt more rewarding and hands-on.
“I got to the stage where I was waking up on Monday mornings thinking, I really don’t want to be doing this anymore,” said Steve. “I had a good reputation in the industry and it would have been easier to stay where I was, but I wanted to actually enjoy the large part of my week that’s dedicated to making a living!”
Although only recently completing training, Steve has already seen encouraging early momentum, with three customer appointments booked before officially launching, thanks to Kitchen Makeovers’ established marketing campaigns.
“The support behind the franchise has definitely given me confidence moving into a completely new industry,” Steve added. “But what really inspired me to join Kitchen Makeovers was that renovating somebody’s kitchen is something they’re genuinely excited about. You’re helping improve a huge part of their home and daily life.”
Joining Steve – and taking the network to over 40 franchisees - is 63-year-old Dean, who has launched in Gloucester after running his motorbike spares business for the past 20 years. Looking for a fresh challenge and greater income potential, Dean explored plenty of franchise opportunities before deciding Kitchen Makeovers was the right fit.
“Franchising felt like the best route because you’ve got the backing in place to help you build something successful but there’s a huge number of franchise brands to consider! It was Kitchen Makeovers that stood out to me,” explained Dean. “The branding looked professional, the systems seemed strong and, at this stage in my life, choosing something where I wasn’t cleaning windows, mowing lawns or spending all day in a van really appealed.”
Dean also praised the initial training programme. “There was a lot to take in during the week but I really enjoyed learning about the products and seeing the quality first-hand. Once you understand the product properly, it gives you much more confidence when speaking to customers.”
Founded in 2018, Kitchen Makeovers specialises in cost-effective kitchen renovations, transforming existing spaces through replacement doors, worktops and other upgrades without the need for a full refit. As demand for affordable home improvement solutions continues to grow, both Steve and Dean are now preparing to establish their businesses within their local communities.
