Successful franchisees come from a wide range of backgrounds, ages and experiences
Franchisees have worked both in practice and industry, banking, financial services, corporate and consulting, and some have been former successful business owners too.
Having a financial background is essential – the focus is on advising and supporting clients while your tech and team do the number crunching.
The Market
With the loss of the traditional bank manager and other advisory organisations, there is a gap that TaxAssist franchises are filling, as people seek a local trusted advisor for their business and personal financial affairs.
Demand is constant, with evolving tech automating many of the basic services. Franchisees and their teams harness this to deliver a suite of accounting, tax and advisory work, with a relationship-led approach.
Alongside these core services, you’ll have multiple additional service lines (TaxAssist Financial Services, Tax Consulting by TaxAssist and Payroll by TaxAssist) that you can introduce to clients and then refer to our dedicated teams of specialists at our support office to undertake the service delivery – helping you create multiple revenue streams for your business.
Our technical team operate a helpdesk, as well as delivering regulatory updates for your team, and we provide specialist support and mentoring for you as the owner. You’ll always be able to access the advice you need, whenever you need it.

TaxAssist Nottingham welcomes new owner
Tej Gawera has purchased the practice at 680 Mansfield Road, Sherwood in Nottingham from Steve McKenna.
Tej Gawera runs established TaxAssist practices in Leicester East, Leicester Central and Syston and has recently expanded his business further by purchasing the Nottingham franchise from Steve McKenna who, after an initial handover period, will be retiring.
This is the second franchise territory for Tej, who along with his eight members of staff, now collectively service over 1,000 clients.
Steve McKenna has enjoyed 13 years at the helm of TaxAssist Accountants. He said: “I’ve had a great journey with TaxAssist and I’d like to think I’ve made a difference in my local community. My thanks go to everyone who has supported me over the years and helped me to build the practice up so successfully.
“Tej is an experienced TaxAssist Accountant so my clients will be in good hands and I’d like to wish him and the team all the best for the future success of the business.”
Tej said: “I’d like to thank Steve for passing on such a well-run practice. I’m really looking forward to meeting with clients both existing and new in the Nottingham area and explaining more about the range of services on offer through TaxAssist Accountants.
This is the fifth TaxAssist resale to have successfully completed in 2024.
Being part of a franchise network is the best of both worlds... I get to make my own decisions about the business and yet we are part of this massive network made up of the very supportive franchisor, directors and staff, as well as the other franchisees
I am happy to report that I now have over 400 clients, which generate an income and flexibility in how I work that could not have been achieved on the corporate ladder I stepped off. Further, I know that the practice will be a valuable asset for my future when the time is right. The shops, along with my own marketing, and the initiatives of the TaxAssist Support Centre Team, have proved invaluable in helping me to build a substantial practice.
I looked at a variety of businesses within franchising but none of them gave me that spark until I looked at TaxAssist Accountants. I felt I could use my experience gained from working within a professional accountancy practice, and I very much enjoyed the buzz associated with helping small businesses.
