Franchisees have worked both in practice and industry, banking, financial services, corporate and consulting, and some have been former successful business owners too.
Having a financial background is essential – the focus is on advising and supporting clients while your tech and team do the number crunching.
The Market
With the loss of the traditional bank manager and other advisory organisations, there is a gap that TaxAssist franchises are filling, as people seek a local trusted advisor for their business and personal financial affairs.

Alongside these core services, you’ll have multiple additional service lines (Financial Planning by TaxAssist, Tax Consulting by TaxAssist and Payroll by TaxAssist) that you can introduce to clients and then refer to our dedicated teams of specialists at our support office to undertake the service delivery – helping you create multiple revenue streams for your business.
Our technical team operate a helpdesk, as well as delivering regulatory updates for your team, and we provide specialist support and mentoring for you as the owner. You’ll always be able to access the advice you need, whenever you need it.

TaxAssist Group appoints Ex-Belvoir CEO as Non-Executive Director
The TaxAssist Group, franchisor for TaxAssist Accountants, is preparing for further long-term network growth by appointing Dorian Gonsalves as a Non-Executive Director.

In his new role, commencing 1st March, Dorian will provide strategic guidance and advice to the executive team.
Dorian joins The TaxAssist Group with a wealth of experience, following a 14-year tenure as CEO at Belvoir Group PLC. During this period, he led Belvoir’s flotation on to the London Stock Exchange and diversified the business from purely lettings into financial services, property sales and other associated income streams, operating from 487 multi-branded locations nationwide.
A total of 12 corporate acquisitions were completed by Dorian and his team at Belvoir, which increased revenues almost ten-fold. These included six acquisitions of competing franchisors and six complementary financial services businesses. Dorian also oversaw the development of the Belvoir Group’s unique in-house Assisted Acquisition Programme, which sources and facilitates business expansion opportunities for franchisees. This programme resulted in the successful completion of over 140 franchisee-led acquisitions.
An experienced franchise professional, Dorian has achieved the British Franchise Association’s Qualified Franchise Professional status. He is also Advisor to the Board of a regional house builder and construction company.
Speaking of his appointment, Dorian said: “I am thrilled to be joining The TaxAssist Group as it continues to accelerate its growth plans. The TaxAssist Group has a very exciting future, and in my opinion is a business that is really going places, delivering exceptional support to franchisees, with a highly skilled and motivated workforce. It is a real joy to be involved in the next stage of what I am sure will be a very exciting journey.”
Daren Moore, TaxAssist Group CEO, said: “It is a pleasure to welcome Dorian to The TaxAssist Group. He comes to us with a skill set that closely aligns with our own ambitious strategic plans. He understands firsthand the challenges of building a franchise business, supporting acquisition projects, establishing a successful financial services business and taking it through an IPO onto the AIM market. Dorian’s record in the franchising industry of developing and scaling businesses is second to none, and his wealth of experience will be hugely valuable to our Board and the wider TaxAssist network.”
Being part of a franchise network is the best of both worlds... I get to make my own decisions about the business and yet we are part of this massive network made up of the very supportive franchisor, directors and staff, as well as the other franchisees
I am happy to report that I now have over 400 clients, which generate an income and flexibility in how I work that could not have been achieved on the corporate ladder I stepped off. Further, I know that the practice will be a valuable asset for my future when the time is right. The shops, along with my own marketing, and the initiatives of the TaxAssist Support Centre Team, have proved invaluable in helping me to build a substantial practice.
I looked at a variety of businesses within franchising but none of them gave me that spark until I looked at TaxAssist Accountants. I felt I could use my experience gained from working within a professional accountancy practice, and I very much enjoyed the buzz associated with helping small businesses.
