Support & Training

Initial training takes place at Minster Cleaning’s Network Support Centre in Birmingham. New franchisees spend a week with the Managing Director and Heads of Department in marketing, operations, IT/internal systems and finance.

Managing Director, Mike Parker, is responsible for the management of the team at the Network Support Centre and helping franchisees build their businesses. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in preparing franchisees for their career with Minster Cleaning.

The marketing team provides continued support to the franchise network in winning new business, customer retention / development and recruitment marketing. Initial training covers the above plus the Minster Cleaning brand and values and how your branch will need to conform to these.

Operational training covers the quoting process and how to calculate a quote. It also covers starting a new contract, all health and safety issues, risk assessments, method statements, site files, equipment and materials, and compliance with a various necessary laws and policies. Our Head of Operations and our external provider continue to be on hand to deal with any queries as they arise, which is the same for all our departments.

The IT department provides IT services at a group-wide level, and targeted proactive and reactive support for each branch. Training is also provided on a digital platform that acts as a hub for payroll, holidays, invoicing and every aspect of customer relationship management (CRM).

The finance department provides initial training in financial administration. Ongoing support is provided in all areas of finance including billing and payroll.

Further support is available through regular national and regional meetings and via the branch network, where there is a healthy exchange of ideas and information.

Testimonials

I have the best of both worlds. I run my own business and yet I am not entirely on my own. Minster Cleaning’s support covers a wide range of areas including IT, accounting and marketing as well as complex areas like health and safety and employment law – this leaves franchisees free to concentrate on looking after customers and providing a first-class service. The franchisee network is also very helpful – there is always someone to speak to and no matter what situation arises, one of the other franchisees can offer useful advice.
James Lofthouse, Derbyshire Franchisee
My years in the RAF gave me an excellent grounding for a career with Minster Cleaning… they eased the transition from the forces to being my own boss by providing help and advice from the very first day. The comprehensive support package takes care of the main day-to-day business activities including IT, accounts, marketing and training, as well as providing professional advice on employment law, health and safety and environmental legislation, so franchisees can concentrate their efforts on business development.
Nick Barber, Northamptonshire Franchisee

Minster Cleaning - Effective Colllaboration

Fresh from their most recent National Franchise Conference, Minster Cleaning reflects on its success, and the value it places on holding these conferences.

Minster Cleaning Image

Having been established since 1982, and franchised since 1992, Minster Cleaning knows something about successful collaboration between a franchisor and franchisees.

Alan Haigh, company Chairman, held his first franchise conference at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield in 1994, with 4 attendees. Over time, the delegates grew in numbers, and the recent conference, again held at The Belfry, saw far more franchisees in attendance! The format of this conference was round table discussions, with the Heads of Department from the Network Support Centre introducing a topic relevant to their department. Franchisees then discuss these topics with their like-minded counterparts from different areas of the country. Topics covered this year included communication with customers and employees from the marketing department, scam awareness from the IT team, and HMRC matters from the accounts department.

Following round table discussions on a variety of current topics relevant to the Network, an external speaker was introduced.

Experience has shown Minster Cleaning that franchisees also appreciate hearing from experts outside of the company, on topics that are relevant to the franchisees, both on a personal level and on a business level. Recent external speakers to conferences have covered employment law and accounting and taxation advice.

This is the second national franchise conference held this year by the company. In February each year, Minster Cleaning holds its annual National Franchise Conference and Awards Evening. The format of the day is slightly different from the October conference, with presentations from Heads of Department at Minster Cleaning’s Network Support Centre on departmental updates and plans for the coming year. In the evening, a dinner and awards evening is held. These awards celebrate the achievements of the franchisees during the previous year, celebrating areas such as growth in branch turnover, marketing endeavours and operational compliance. The coveted overall Franchisee of the Year award recognises success across a range of key business performance metrics. It’s a great evening and is enjoyed by franchisees and members of the head office team alike.

Feedback from franchisees in the Minster Cleaning network has shown that they appreciate being able to spend this face-to-face time with their peers. One of the many great advantages of franchising is the support from other motivated business owners in the same market as you. Franchisees can discuss a range of topics together such as employment, health and safety, finance, customer retention and new business acquisition. Facilitating these discussions face to face is seen as far more beneficial than having these discussions remotely.

As well as two national conferences every year, Minster Cleaning holds periodic regional meetings across the country. Being a national commercial cleaning company, with branches stretching from Aberdeen to Cornwall, and from Belfast across to Norfolk, Minster Cleaning are aware that some franchisees live and work in areas that are remote. So, every other year, 3 regional meetings are held in May/June across the country. These are well attended events, with franchisees appreciating the smaller numbers at these meetings which allows for more in-depth conversation. It also fosters positive working relationships with neighbouring franchisees, some of whom have overlapping issues relevant to the area they live in.

Mike Parker, Managing Director at Minster Cleaning, says “Face-to-face meetings provide an invaluable opportunity for franchisees to collaborate with each other and with the staff at our Network Support Centre. We have always found it to be more beneficial than Teams calls or email updates – franchisees are more engaged and contribute more when they are all sitting around a table together”.
