A rewarding scalable business model for the financially astute
Run your own accounting and advisory business

Now more than ever, you might be thinking about how to make your time and income work harder for your future, so that you’re in control.
As a TaxAssist Accountants franchisee, you can run a thriving accountancy and advisory business, enjoy a growing income from your efforts, and build a valuable asset to sell when the time is right.
You will be able to deliver a suite of accounting, tax, financial and advisory services to local business owners, contractors, freelancers, and their families from your welcoming high street premises.
Successful franchisees come from a wide range of backgrounds, ages and experiences

Franchisees have worked both in practice and industry, banking, financial services, corporate and consulting, and some have been former successful business owners too.
Having a financial background is essential – the focus is on advising and supporting clients while your tech and team do the number crunching.
The Market
With the loss of the traditional bank manager and other advisory organisations, there is a gap that TaxAssist franchises are filling, as people seek a local trusted advisor for their business and personal financial affairs.
Demand is constant, with evolving tech automating many of the basic services. Franchisees and their teams harness this to deliver a suite of accounting, tax and advisory work, with a relationship-led approach.

Alongside these core services, you’ll have multiple additional service lines (Financial Planning by TaxAssist, Tax Consulting by TaxAssist and Payroll by TaxAssist) that you can introduce to clients and then refer to our dedicated teams of specialists at our support office to undertake the service delivery – helping you create multiple revenue streams for your business.
Our technical team operate a helpdesk, as well as delivering regulatory updates for your team, and we provide specialist support and mentoring for you as the owner. You’ll always be able to access the advice you need, whenever you need it.
Your role – and our role
As a TaxAssist franchisee you are in business for yourself, but not by yourself.
The goal is for you to work on the business rather than in it. That way, you’re growing an asset as well as your income.
You’ll spend your time growing your business attracting new clients and leading your team of loyal staff. We’ll guide you every step of the way to maximise both your income and asset value, all you need to do is follow the proven model – just like hundreds of people have before you.

James Mattam appointed as Group Director of Franchising
The new role ensures continuity of focus on growing and supporting the TaxAssist Accountants network of practices which remain a key segment of the TaxAssist Group portfolio of businesses.

James Mattam joined the TaxAssist Group Board in 2016 as Group Business Development Director. From 1st Jan 2025, James has taken on a new role, created to support the network of over 420 accountancy offices in the UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada and the USA.
James said: “I’m excited to be taking on this new role in the 30th year that TaxAssist Accountants has been successfully operating as a franchise. Having been a part of the business for over 25 years it was a natural step forward to put my energy into continuing the growth and development of the business I care deeply about.
“TaxAssist Accountants has grown year on year through recessions, periods of high inflation, movements in interest rates, a pandemic and spikes in unemployment, and we believe the key reason for the network’s success is the strength of the franchise model, the support teams and the energy and effort the network put into driving their practices forward. The franchisor/franchisee relationship is unique, working together for mutual benefit, and the franchised businesses are at the core of everything we do as a Group.
“Our accountants look to us for development, support and growth at all times and we always aim to generate value for money support and services along with nationally obtained preferrable rates for software and IT.
“I look forward to driving further expansion of the network and working with my fellow directors to deliver initiatives that will help and support each and every franchisee to build successful and profitable businesses.”
James has spent his entire full-time career with TaxAssist Accountants since completing his honours degree in Business Information Systems. He has enjoyed a number of different roles, initially within digital development and support, before moving on to marketing and business development.
Career highlights to date include the roll out of the new TaxAssist Accountants brand, supporting network expansion through retailed accounting practices, driving thousands of new business leads across the UK and supporting other Group companies and franchised businesses in Ireland, Canada, USA and Australia.
Being part of a franchise network is the best of both worlds... I get to make my own decisions about the business and yet we are part of this massive network made up of the very supportive franchisor, directors and staff, as well as the other franchisees
I am happy to report that I now have over 400 clients, which generate an income and flexibility in how I work that could not have been achieved on the corporate ladder I stepped off. Further, I know that the practice will be a valuable asset for my future when the time is right. The shops, along with my own marketing, and the initiatives of the TaxAssist Support Centre Team, have proved invaluable in helping me to build a substantial practice.
I looked at a variety of businesses within franchising but none of them gave me that spark until I looked at TaxAssist Accountants. I felt I could use my experience gained from working within a professional accountancy practice, and I very much enjoyed the buzz associated with helping small businesses.
