About This Video
This Caremark UK case study features Farina Tayub, the managing director of Caremark Leeds (formerly Leicester), describing her route from chartered accountancy to running a regulated home-care franchise. Pre-Caremark, Farina worked as a chartered accountant, a profession she chose because she had to work for money as a single mother of two children aged three and six, but didn't actually enjoy. The desire for change combined with witnessing care realities through her accountancy work pushed her toward home care as the sector — but with no operating experience inside the category, she went down the franchise route.
The due diligence process Farina describes is the most concrete part of her testimonial. She visited at least 15 different franchisor, both established and new, asking each one similar questions and populating a spreadsheet with their answers. His passion and the way he ignited her interest in the brand made the decision. The values, policies, and ethos she had read about all came together in a brand she could believe in.
On operating capability, Farina is clear that she did not come from a caring background. The two-week franchisee training programme, held at Caremark's Pulborough head office, gave her the operational understanding of how to use the model and the support framework. The ongoing post-launch support has continued helping her grow the business. What she finds most rewarding is being the boss, leading a team of people that enjoy their jobs, working on her business and not in it (because she is a delegator by temperament), and the financial impact giving her the ability to earn a healthy lifestyle she chooses to live.
Caremark is a UK regulated home-care franchise operating across multiple territories, with partners running CQC-regulated home-care offices delivering hourly visits and live-in care to clients in their own homes.
