Yamaha provides children with the opportunity to play musical instruments when they would have had no access to them before. The Music Time program runs in public elementary schools in various regions around the world and Yamaha create the opportunity for musical performances. The program was developed in Asian countries in 2015, and provides music lessons within a public school curriculum, providing children from less wealthy families the opportunity of learning an instrument. Musical instruments and textbooks are provided, as well as a training program for instructors. As of 2016, 52 schools in Malaysia and 90 schools in Indonesia have participated in the Music Time program.
In countries in Central and South America, Yamaha contributes to free music education for regional youth orchestras and band groups. Their aim is to create a positive environment for children and support their development, helping to prevent them from leaning towards crime and violence.
