The history of Albert Heijn supermarkets can be dated back as far as 1887, when Albert Heijn himself opened a small convenience store, that he always ensured had a wide variety in choice. In 1927 they opened their first franchise in the Netherlands, however, the first supermarket of Albert Heijn opened in 1952 and this model of shop is what is used today.
