Tell us about yourself
I tried all sorts of methods to stop smoking. Sprays, tablets, patches and even hypnosis - none of these worked for me. Four years ago, I came across electronic cigarettes whilst on holiday in America. When I got back from my travels, I gave it a chance and I used this little e-cig for a week. I was elated that this was actually working, I didn’t need to smoke cigarettes. I searched online to try to find a UK supplier and after trying a whole range of bad brands, I came across Totally Wicked. I never touched another tobacco cigarette.
As for flavours, I’m a big fan tobacco’s. I sometimes have a spell on more fruity flavours, but I always come back to Odyssey Tobacco – slightly peppery with an undertone of dark fruits. I love it.
Tell us about your business
After successfully making the switch to vaping, I told everyone about it. I saw e-cigs as the ‘holy grail’ and I told my friends, my family, even random people walking down the street with a cigarette – anyone who would listen! I’d tell them about my e-cig. I found that many of my friends started switching too – it made me think that I should start a business. That’s when I got in touch with Totally Wicked.
I opened the doors of my Romford shop in June 2014 and have helped thousands of smokers switch over to electronic cigarettes. I’m about to open my second store in Upminster, and a third and fourth will follow shortly afterwards.
I love meeting new people every day, helping them on their journey to vaping. I love to see the elation on their faces as they try one for the first time, the sheer joy of realisation that these things actually work, that they can be released from the shackles of tobacco.
Do you have much competition in your area?
When I started, there was hardly any competition – only three or four electronic cigarette shops in Romford. Now there’s 11 and that’s growing. I don’t tend to take much notice of what they’re doing – there’s always going to be competition and my customers are always telling me that they prefer my e-liquids. In fact, we have even had staff of competitor stores coming to us to buy their e-liquids! That gives me confidence!
What do you offer different to your customers?
We operate a ‘no pressure’ approach in store, we like our customers to feel relaxed and comfortable when they visit. Making the switch can be daunting – there are so many choices, flavours and styles, it’s easy for it to become overbearing.
When you visit our shop, we’ll start by asking some basic questions about your smoking habits. Once we have deduced the types of kits, flavours and strengths you might enjoy, we get the kits out and you have a chance to play with each one. We never try to sell something just because of the price – we only sell products which meet your needs. That’s not something that’s common these days, but this is about helping you on your journey to making the switch so you need to find the right product for you.
