Case Study: Dave Hawkins
Dave Hawkins, 44, a former florist, is now a franchisee with Rainbow International, the leading supplier of restoration and specialist cleaning services following fire, flood or accidental damage.
A florist by trade, he felt that he wanted a change of careers and what better opportunity than when his wife’s job allowed her to re-locate to North Yorkshire?
For the first few months, Dave commuted from North Yorkshire to Hertfordshire to carry on his floristy business but before long, realised that the travelling was just too much. He wanted a work / life balance and to see his children grow up. So he decided to take the plunge and start his own independent handy man business in his local area. It allowed him to have that much longed for work / life balance.
Having made friends in his local village with a couple who already ran a Rainbow franchise, Dave decided that this was his opportunity to own a business he could grow into and maybe even pass down to his children.
So he started on the journey to becoming a successful Rainbow franchisee. The process was easier than anticipated from start to finish. Dave had assumed that the banks would not be lending to small business owners but much to his surprise he found getting a loan very easy and stress-free.
Floristry gave me the people skills that are essential for running a Rainbow franchise. Much of our work results from fires and floods, where customers are in a stressful situation, so you must be considerate and supportive while managing their expectations. You must also be punctual, accessible and willing to go that extra mile for customers. The attention to detail in floristry has enabled me to look at each situation with an eye for detail
