I spent 20 years working in corporate finance, working 12 to 16 hours per day making money for other people. Whilst the role was lucrative, it did have a major effect on my life, my health and my family. I finally leftcorporate finance and became a publican then realised after 7 years that all I was doing was making money for another corporate entity - a brewery. Having sold my share in the pub early in 2013, my wife and I decided to look at franchises whereby we could (at last) dictate our working hours and where we could make a decent living for us, but on our terms.

Why Oven Rescue?
I had looked at a number of possible franchises including Oven Rescue and weighed up the pros and cons of each. I had looked at other oven cleaning franchises and came across Oven Rescue. All other franchise opportunities bombarded daily via email and phone calls, wanting to sign me up. I had an email exchange and a couple of conversations with Mike Harris after which he said to me "if you want the franchise, just call me". That conversation led me to believe that the company was built on integrity rather than the need to have as many franchisees as possible and that Mike had a huge amount of pride in his business and his brand.

What are the positives of working for Oven Rescue?
I don't consider myself to be an employee of Oven Rescue and neither does Mike. As a franchisee, I feel that I am seen as an integral part of a growing, respectable brand and am proud to be part of that. Mike has told me and other Oven Rescue franchisees time and time again, that the franchise is our business and we can make it as successful as we want. All he asks in return is that we respect and work representing his brand. Having dealt with him and been infected with his enthusiasm, it is not that difficult.

What is your background experience / previous employment?
My background and experience is not at all relevant to what I do now, but it does have an impact from a customer relations perspective and the need to promote the brand. I feel that no matter what you do in life, as long as you believe in the product/service, you will succeed. This is one of the main reasons I signed up with Oven Rescue.

How have you found the training and support?
In a word - outstanding! From day one, I was involved in "on the job" training, which to my mind, is far better than a classroom scenario. I got to learn how Mike deals with customers, how he handles each job accordingly and how he markets the brand by requesting recommendation. Since starting my franchise, Mike has responded to calls immediately or if he is unable to do so (as he is cleaning himself, unlike other franchisors), he normally responds within 30 minutes. Where else are you going to find that??

What are you looking forward to as your business grows?
Great question!!!! To be honest, I am looking forward to growing the business at my pace to suit my lifestyle. This was one of the selling points from Mike initially, in that I can work as much as I want to suit me. I am already building a solid base of customers and because I have such a large area to cover, my goal is to add one or (hopefully) two extra vans over the next three to five years. I know Mike is keen for this to happen and I am extremely confident that I can do so. My confidence stems from the great reaction from customers so far and the support I will get when growth happens.
