Case Study: David Curley, F45 Training Springwood Franchisee
David Curley left his job in the insurance/finance industy to open a F45 Training centre in Springwood, NSW and now has plans to open two more in the area. In the following interview, he tells how becoming a F45 franchisee changed his life.
Q. What attracted you to F45 as a business opportunity?
A. F45’s group-training format allows me to help a lot more people than any traditional fitness solution.
I loved the premium nature of the product and brand. While fitness is littered with fads, F45’s intelligent platform lets it move and be ahead of any fitness trend that may be on the horizon, allowing my business to successfully evolve over time and prosper in an ever-changing market.
I was also impressed with the relatively low capital requirements to set up; the return on capital was far more attractive than any other model I had investigated.
F45’s simple concept allowed me to keep my day job in the early stages until the business was humming along successfully, which meant a much lower financial risk and allowed us to take the leap and follow a long-standing dream.
Q. What attracted you to the F45 as a brand?
A. F45 appeals to everybody, but resonates loudly with females aged between 24 and 45, which is the fastest-growing demographic in fitness.

A. The F45 business system took the guesswork out of everything and I was given the blueprint to build and launch a profitable business. Every detail was covered off from premises fitout and pre-launch marketing to workouts, equipment and technology. The system was so streamlined that I was able to set up, launch and operate the studio all whilst working full-time.
Q. What business results have you seen since launching (member numbers, return on investment)?
A. Having followed the business system we had a membership platform that allowed for us to be in a profitable cash flow position from the day we opened the doors. Within six months we had 150 members and were turning over more than $40,000 per month. This replaced my corporate wage and then some, generating a healthy dividend each and every month.
Q. What non-business rewards have you had since launching?
A. It has been an overwhelming sense of achievement to have such a positive impact on so many people in such a short time. We’ve made a lot of new friends in the community and couldn’t imagine our lives without F45 now. It’s also had a positive impact on our children as well as members’ kids by providing them with a positive role model who lives life in a happier, healthier and more positive way.
We’ve also had the opportunity to help raise money for a number of worthy causes in the community, which has given us a chance to give back to the people who supported us.
Q. What are your future plans?
A. After the success and response within our community we are currently working towards opening two new studios that will increase our ability to help more and more people live happier and healthier lives. I see the next two studios will quickly provide us financial freedom returning an income for my family that I would have never dreamed of achieving in my corporate roles whilst also providing a positive work/life balance for all of us.
