Opened in 1996 by Jim Gifford, Signs Express (Aberdeen) has built up a great reputation in the area and is part of the UK and Ireland’s largest signs and graphics franchise.
Jim recently decided to leave the business to concentrate more on his political career and Olive Hamilton is now part of the Signs Express franchise family having officially taken over the centre in November 2014.
Olive started her career as a housing officer for the Aberdeen Council, subsequently moving with her husband to Alicante. Whilst there, Olive took ownership of a craft shop and spent her time focussing on growing the business. She successfully did this by diversifying her product offering, organising workshops on how to make craft goods.
Olive and husband George moved back to the UK in July 2014 after spending seven years overseas. It was whilst they were still abroad that she started researching business opportunities for when they returned home to Aberdeen later in the year. The re-sale of Signs Express (Aberdeen) appealed to Olive as she had the existing experience of managing her own, successful business and she was able to see the potential of the long established sign company.
Commenting on her new venture Olive said, “With a long history in Aberdeenshire, Signs Express has an excellent reputation and a solid customer base so I was very interested in taking on the opportunity. I could see the vast potential of signs and graphics as a business venture as every business uses them. With experienced staff in place, equipped production unit and a ready made customer base, I was delighted to join the franchise network.”
Tony Marsh, Sales Director at Signs Express franchise head quarters, commented; “We’re delighted to have Olive on board. She has the managerial experience required to run a successful Signs Express franchise coupled with enthusiasm and the desire to grow the business. She is very customer focussed and her ethos of providing fantastic, honest and reliable service sits very well with our own. We wish her every success with the growth of Signs Express (Aberdeen) and very much look forward to working with her along the way.”
