FRANCHISE ASSOCIATIONS
Double celebration for NBC Bird and Pest Solutions
June 26, 2009
NBC have 2 big reasons to celebrate. Having reached 5 years of franchising they have also just achieved Full Member status with the BFA.
The last 5 years have proven pretty busy for everyone at NBC. We all want to get paid for doing something we absolutely love, and some of us are lucky enough to do just that, including the 35 franchisees currently within NBC. Managing Director of NBC John Dickson has been a falconer since 13, and in 1993 he noticed a commercial demand for bird control services and with help from the Prince’s Trust he launched NBC and hasn’t looked back. Branching out in 2004 NBC decided to take the route of franchising branded as NBC Bird Solutions. The business later expanded and re-branded as NBC Bird and Pest Solutions to adapt to the demands of the market
place to offer a range of bird and pest services under one roof, not subcontracting and offering services to commercial and domestic customers.
One of the things making NBC particularly notable, if slightly unusual, is its use of birds of prey to keep feral birds off buildings and away from waste disposal sites amongst many other locations such as city centres & protecting hotels & shops. Under the auspices of a well- trained franchisee, these hawks and falcons are adept at scaring away even the most tenacious of airborne vermin, such as pigeons and gulls. In addition to this business quirk, NBC also installs a wide range of bird proofing as well as resolving a host of pest problems and putting in place preventative measures for pests such as rats, mice, wasps, cockroaches, fleas, insets, ants and bedbugs.
Despite the current economy, the ‘credit crunch’ as it’s commonly referred to as has had very little effect on the pest control market, as pest are an all year round nuisance that can’t be ignored, making the demand for pest control a necessity, not a luxury. The determination of the franchisee’s really has to be noted in the success of NBC, Tim Lester, Portsmouth & Southampton franchisee said “Someone told me today that we are heading for a recession; and I told him that I didn’t intend to Participate".
NBC’s upgrade to Full Membership within the BFA has proved the success and sustainability of the company. NBC not only demonstrates they operate ethically as a franchise but their very roots lie in their ethical approach in their services they provide. Companies choose NBC because of their approach. NBC are supporters of Think Wildlife, The Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) which means they ensure that in their efforts to deal with pest problems effectively, at the same time their operations do not have an adverse effect on the surrounding wildlife.
Kelly Smith, NBC’s Franchise Business Manager said “There are now 35 franchisees in the network that enables NBC to confidently manage all enquiries that come in through the central call centre from almost anywhere the UK and now following a series of recent national account wins under the wings of NBC, the sky really is the limit”.
GREAT! WHAT'S MY NEXT STEP?
