Dominick Forde and Martin Lodge Launch Dream Door Franchise in Reading

December 18, 2006

Dream Doors franchise network are delighted to announce the launch of Dominick Forde and Martin Lodge’s Dream Door franchise in Reading. Dominick and Martin demonstrate what franchising means to them, why they chose Dream Doors franchise, some key tips on YOU entering into a franchise for sale, and lots more…

Why we chose franchising

Buying a Franchise was something we had both been thinking about for some time. We had worked together in a previous company and we felt that with our mix of experience in Management and Sales and Marketing we could run a successful Management Franchise. We therefore decided to pursue this together and after looking at a number of different options, we felt that the Dream Doors Franchise provided everything that we were looking for including strong management expertise and field support.

What we did before taking up a franchise

Dom - For the last 15 years I have worked in Sales and Marketing in IT related Fields. For the past 5 years I have been selling Vehicle Telematic Solutions.

Martin – Operated in the Commercial Vehicle Leasing Industry for a number of years, initially in Sales & Marketing and then as a Regional Director for 4 years. Last 4 years spent as a Consultant, mainly within the Logistics industry.

How we raised the finance

A combination of Savings and Personal Loans.

The training and support we receive from my franchisor

The initial induction training and support was very good. Neither of us had experience in the Kitchen industry but we both felt that after our induction training we could confidently speak to customers about their requirements. The supporting documentation is also very good. Continuing training in all aspects of the industry is extremely vital to the success of every Franchisee.

The challenges I have faced

Clearly it is a nervous time to branch out into an industry where you have little or indeed no experience. However, with our combined experience we have overcome many of the issues faced by a New Start business. Biggest challenges have been organising the correct type of financing and the ongoing pursuit of knowledge of all things ‘Kitchen’.

My advice to someone thinking of buying their first franchise

Make sure you have the drive to run your own Business. Look at all types of Franchise to identify which one is most suitable to you. Once you have identified a suitable Franchise, talk to other Franchises in the network to gain feedback from them. Pay attention to the continued level of support that a franchisor is able to provide and ensure that this is included in any formal agreement.

My plans for the future

Martin and I plan to open our first showroom as soon as possible. Longer term we plan to open a second showroom in the RG area. Our intentions are to operate well beyond the initial 5-year term and expand into other areas as Dream Doors also expand.
