Shortlisted for 2016 bfa HSBC Franchisee of the Year awards
Fights off competition – AND gulls
Whitley Bay based Richard Bryan of Wilkins Chimney Sweep (Tyneside North) was delighted - and a little astounded – to be named Wilkins Chimney Sweep Franchisee of the Year 2016, against stiff competition from fellow franchisees across the country.
He has gone on to top this with being shortlisted for a national award, the British Franchise Association’s HSBC Franchisee of the Year Award, MicroBusiness category.
He started a Wilkins Chimney Sweep franchise business in 2013 and his business has gone from strength to strength. As a member of both Which? Trusted Traders and the local
Check & Vetted scheme, Richard has had rave reviews from his North Tyneside customers and he is building an outstanding reputation in the area.
BFA HSBC Franchisee of the Year Award
The Franchisee of the Year awards seek to highlight the outstanding business acumen, passion and achievement of individuals and businesses across the UK. Richard has been shortlisted as one of the top three in the Microbusiness Franchisee of the Year (less than £100,000 turnover) category.
The award rewards franchisees who, through their enterprising nature and determination to succeed, stand out from the crowd of other small business owners. (Finalists for this award have often chosen to come into franchising to get a better work life balance or to take control of their own destiny.)
If he wins his category, he will be considered for overall UK Franchisee of the Year 2016, an award named from one of the six category winners. (All finalists presented their case to a panel of expert judges in July. All winners will be named at a black-tie ceremony in September.)
He has done incredibly well to be shortlisted. There are just 20 shortlisted finalists from 45 thousand franchise-owned businesses in the UK.
Pip Wilkins, the bfa’s CEO, commented: “Selecting just a handful of exceptional business owners to go through is extremely difficult. These are outstanding entrepreneurs that are leading the way in franchising and we’re set for an even more difficult task ahead in choosing the winners.”
Wilkins Chimney Sweep Franchisee of the Year 2016
The Franchisee of the Year Award is based on the adherence to both best practice to the Wilkins model. The Pillars of this business model include excellent sweeping skills and customer relationships, high marketing standards (including customer data management) and strong financial management.
Following an in-territory sweeping skills assessment, Wilkins Chimney Sweep director Peter Harris was delighted to note that Richard’s sweeping practices are clean, safe and in line with the standards laid out by the Franchise:
“Richard won the award as he is meeting high standards as a sweep along with looking after his customers well. He’s clearly using all of the tools provided by Wilkins Chimney Sweep to drive his business. We admire his outlook. Based by the sea, gulls are a real problem for a many of his customers and their mobbing behaviour made Richard initially very nervous of roof work when he joined the company, a fear that we are pleased to report that he has now overcome.”
