Muriel Morgan Is Thrilled With New York City nails

May 8, 2008

Franchisee Muriel Morgan has been thrilled with New York City nails, as it allows her to keep her children a priority, own her own business and work in the beauty industry.

Muriel Morgan is a 47-year-old franchise owner with New York City nails. After dabbling in other careers, such as estate agent, interior designer and dental nurse, Muriel found her dream job with New York City nails.

Did you ever work outside the beauty industry?
Yes I did lots of different jobs, including office work, dental nurse, but always came back to the beauty industry as this was my first love.

What attracted you to beauty?
I really enjoyed the glamour of it all, I loved learning about new products and new techniques, I really enjoyed educating people on how they could look good and how to look after their skin. I just found the whole experience very rewarding.

What was your first job in the industry?
I work as a consultant for Maxfactor in the Channel islands. It was a large account and I quickly became the number one consultant.

How did you progress to your current job?
I decided to return to Ireland from living in the Channel Islands for 25 Years, with my two sons. I needed to return to work but didn't particularly want to work for anyone else. I had to have something that gave me the flexibility to be able to work around my children, as I am a single parent and this was my main priority. I spent some time researching difference avenues and realised that I couldn't do this alone. This is where the team of New York City nail worked perfect for me. From the moment of first meeting them, I knew this was for me. They had done all the hard work from interviewing staff to setting up and stocking my nail bar... It was perfect! That left me to do what i do best, run my own business my way with 100 percent on-going support from them. I now feel privileged to be part of their team.

Describe a typical day in your job.
Well firstly I wouldn't call it a job -- not when you love what you do so much.

After I take my children to school, I go out to MY New York City nail bar, where my staff are ready to discuss the day. We discuss their client list targets and how each day we can improve to making our nail bar more successful.

My time is mainly spent in planning and promoting the nail bar and making sure everything runs smoothly. I also enjoy greeting the clients' when they arrive. I can then leave my nail bar in the capable hands of my staff and go and pick my children up from school.

What are the high points of the job?
I never feel I am in this alone. There is always one of the New York City nail bar team at the end of the phone to help me sort out any problems I may have or give you advice in every aspect of my business.

I love to see my clients walk away feeling happy with their treatment. I love working for myself.

And the low points?
I wish I had done this years ago!

What’s your ultimate career ambition?
I would like to grow with New York City Nails as a company, I want to constantly keep up with new trends within the nail business and this is encouraged by New York City nails, as they are always ready to listen to your new ideas.
And from the pleasant experience I have had of opening my own nail bar, I now know I want to keep going and open more and more and more franchises.

Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to get into a position like yours?
If like me you want to own and run your own business the way you would like to without any of the hassles opening a business can bring, then let someone eles do the hard work for you... and enjoy doing what you do best. And New York City Nails will certainly do all that for you.
