Wilmslow is the second ZipYard to be owned by Richard McConnell, who’s award-winning Centre in Altrincham has been open for two years. It offers top quality garment alterations and repairs in a clean purpose designed retail environment with on-site seamstresses and private changing rooms.
Said Richard: “It has always been the plan to open several ZipYards throughout the North West. The huge success of my centre in Altrincham has proved that there is a demand for our services.
“I am delighted that Mr Osborne agreed to open the Wilmslow Centre. He is a great supporter of local businesses and it means a lot to us that he took time out of his busy schedule to visit us on Friday.”
L to R is: Nigel Toplis - MD of the Bardon Group, George Osborne - Chancellor of the Exchequer, Kate Cross - store manager, Marie McConnell and Richard McConnell - owners of the ZipYard.
The ZipYard has provided jobs for two local people: Hannah Thompson (25), who has joined as a part-time assistant whilst Kate Cross (32) has been appointed as store manager. Says Kate: “After working eight years as a store supervisor for fashion retailers Phase Eight, I decided it was time for a new career and a new challenge. When I heard that a ZipYard was opening I thought, this is exactly what Wilmslow needs and I wanted to be part of this exciting innovation.”
The Centre boasts two private fitting rooms so any necessary measurements can be done on site and will be adding a separate bridal suite by the end of November, where the professional seamstresses can pin up alterations in situ.
A big part of the company’s ethos is to encourage people to recycle garments in their wardrobe rather than just throwing away and buying new.
Explained Kate: “I think local people will love the centre and the services we offer. Most people, like me, don’t have the time or skills to repair or alter their own clothes and so many good garments are going to waste just hanging in the wardrobe. Now they can bring these in and we’ll give them a new lease of life.
“Our seamstresses are amazing – if it can be done they can do it!”
The ZipYard concept is well established in Ireland and is growing steadily in the UK with 14 centres now open throughout the country. From dress re-styling and taking in or letting out garments to bridal-wear fitting or formal wear alterations, The ZipYard can do it all. There is also a 1-hour express service for zips, hems and minor repairs. Shoppers can buy a garment in the morning and have the alterations done in time to wear the outfit that evening.
The ZipYard Wilmslow located at 18 Green Lane, Wilmslow opens six days a week. From Monday to Friday the hours are 9.00am to 5.30pm and on Saturday the centre is open from 9.00am to 5.00pm.
