Situated at 159 Kings Road, near Brentwood train station, The ZipYard opened to the public on Wednesday 7 November to provide a low-cost way for local people to renew their wardrobe.
Simon, 40, was a Lead Engineer for Ford Motor Company for over 14 years before leaving to set up his own IT support services company. He also runs another company providing Point of Sale systems for dry-cleaning and clothing repair businesses, which is how he came across the ZipYard.
Simon said: “The ZipYard is a fantastic concept and Brentwood has never had anything like this before. So far people seem to love the services we have to offer. No appointments are necessary and we’ve got private fitting rooms so we can do any measuring right here.”
The UK’s leading clothing alterations and repairs company The ZipYard offers a wide range of alteration and tailoring services, all done on site by trained professionals in a clean, purpose-built environment. From dress restyling and taking in/letting out to bridal-wear fitting and formal wear alterations, Simon’s team of seamstresses will do it all. There is also a 1-hour express service for zips, hems and minor repairs.
Continued Simon: “Most people don’t have the time or skills to repair or alter their own clothes and so many good garments go to waste. Now they can bring them in to us and we’ll bring them back to life by making them fit perfectly!”
Running the centre on a day to day basis will be Manageress Emily Hatcher, 22, who studied at Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School before studying music at The Colchester Institute.
As Assistant Manager for two well-known retailers in Brentwood Emily is no stranger to dealing with the public and has a passion for fashion.
Emily said: “I love clothes and I’m really interested in fashion so this job is perfect for me! We all have clothes hanging in the wardrobe that we don’t wear because they don’t fit well and that’s where The ZipYard comes in. Our seamstresses are so skilful and the quality of their work is excellent.”
