Already established in Northern Ireland since 2005, the Zip Yard is the most successful land fastest growing garment alteration franchise in the UK, with 14 stores already in operation. Nigel has secured a Master Franchise agreement, which will see up to 48 new branches rolled out across England, Scotland and Wales in the next five years.
Widely regarded as a pioneer of franchising in the UK, Nigel Toplis and his team have over 35 years experience in the sector, running Recognition Express (previous franchise of the year winners) and ComputerXplorers (the world’s largest education franchise). Nigel was himself Chairman of the British Franchise Association for two years and has written extensively on the subject of franchising.
Nigel said: “The Zip Yard is a very exciting opportunity, both for our group and potential franchise owners. The market is huge and there is high demand for alterations and repairs, with customers just crying out for a consistent supplier of these services. The brand is very strong and combined with our proven business model and support systems we are confident that all our stores will be profitable in the first year.
“I am looking forward to working with the Zip Yard team in transferring their successful franchise model across the UK”
Nigel continued: “We are looking for people who are dedicated, passionate, hard working, organized, customer focused and keen to follow a proven business system. They don’t need to have any previous experience in repairs or alterations – we are not looking for tailors and tailoresses.”
In return, successful franchise owners will receive a two-week comprehensive induction programme covering every business practice, including computer systems, how to run a store, marketing, recruitment and sales. Some elements of the training are classroom-based and others are based in-store for hands-on experience.
The initial investment required to run a Zip Yard franchise is £15,000with the total cost running at around £40,000 depending on the cost of the shop fit.
For this investment the franchise owner receives a franchise package that includes a full shop fit including two industrial sewing machines and other alteration and repair machinery, a computer and software, internal and external signage, fixtures and fittings, and starting stock, as well as ongoing training and support from the franchisor.
