Organisers behind the brand new Pop Star Parties were popping the non-alcoholic champagne corks and exercising their vocal cords as party-goers prepared themselves to be the next big thing.

Pop Star Parties – the Shipston equivalent to the X-Factor and brainchild of Blockley resident Mark Newton – are based at Newsound studios, Ditchford Farm Estate, just off the Fosse Way near Shipston – and, according to enthusiats, is going to be the next big thing.

Mark, who opened Newsound Studios two years ago, told the Observer the idea was born after he organised a similar party for his young niece, but now he is getting people of all age in the party mood.

“It doesn’t matter if you are eight or 80 – anyone can be a pop star for the day. We are obviously geared to young birthday parties but we are also getting loads of interest from bigger birthday occasions, like 40ths, and its perfect for hen and stag nights.

“Also, for the boys, we have the Rock Star Pary where lads can play on drums and guitars.”

Mark, who has worked in the recording industry for over 15 years, including a stint in Nashville, explained firstly they send out a backing CD for party-goers to practice with then, when people start arriving they try to make the experience as authentic as possible.

“We always roll out the red carpet, pour out some popstar champagne and hand out access-all-areas passes. It’s got to be authentic so we have crowd control and camera crews as well.

“Then everyone warms-up with a karaoke disco and, after a few practices, we can start recording in the studio.

“We can do anything people want from the Sugababes and Eminem to Dolly Parton, Stereophonics or Green Day.

“Afterwards everyone gets a fully mixed CD of their song and a platinum disk presentation.

“We have been doing these parties for six months now and the whole idea has just exploded. People are saying it’s the best party they have ever been to, which is fantastic,” he added.
