Redundancies Lead to Rise in Franchise Enquiries
July 9, 2009
An IT company which has seen a 50 per cent rise in enquiries from potential franchisees as unemployment rates continue to soar is targeting people who have recently been made redundant.
As unemployment levels reach the highest they have been in the UK for 12 years, The PC Support Group has seen an increase in people looking to start their own business.
Phil Bird, Managing Director, said: “Although unemployment is on the rise, a lot of these people have taken redundancy so they will have some cash in their back pocket and are looking for somewhere to invest it. Where better to invest than in themselves?
“Far from scratching their heads wondering where their career is going, people should see this as perfect timing to start up their own business doing something they enjoy and building something of value.”
The PC Support Group is continuing to defy the economic slowdown and saw a 217 per cent growth in turnover from the financial year end 2008 to March 2009. It now has more than 450 clients in its portfolio and has seen an increase in firms with more than 50 PCs seeking to outsource their support as they look to reduce costs due to the economic climate.
The company operates a franchise network throughout the UK including branches in Harrow, Warrington, Cambridge and Edinburgh plus its own operation in Liverpool. It is looking to expand its number of franchises even further.
Angus Kerr, Edinburgh franchisee, said: “I ran a small computer consultancy business in my spare time for more than 12 years and treated it as a hobby until I saw an opportunity to leave my current employer (HBOS) and run my own business full time. The obvious option was to make my own business a full time venture but I decided to look at the franchise market, as whilst I had a lot of technical and business experience, I wanted to know if they could add any value.
“I have not been disappointed with my decision, my franchise is now growing well.”
GREAT! WHAT'S MY NEXT STEP?
