Chemical Reaction- Focus on Success

March 15, 2008

Thousands of lives could be saved in Britain’s hospitals thanks to a major scientific breakthrough to eradicate a range of killer bugs. A new product is being launched in the UK this month which will wipe out Clostridium difficile – a bacteria thought to be responsible for killing more than 4,000 hospital patients a year.

It is the first time hospitals will have a cleaning agent proven to eradicate C. diff spores on contact and is nearly 1,000 times more effective than any disinfectants currently available while remaining non-toxic and safe to use. Chemex AntiBak has been under development for more than three years and has passed international standards confirming its ability to kill some of the world’s most dangerous bacteria and viruses including C.diff spores, Norovirus, MRSA, Avian Flu H5N1, Polio, SARS, Hepatitis C and HIV.

More than 55,000 cases involving C. diff were reported in UK hospitals last year. In 2005 3,800 people died from C. diff according to the Office for National Statistics which also reported the number of deaths had quadrupled in six years. Sean Derrig, Chief Executive of Chemex International, said the development of AntiBak was a massive breakthrough with the product having the potential to save thousands of lives every year.

“C. diff poses such a huge threat because it produces spores which are notoriously difficult to kill. These spores are what makes C. diff spread so easily and normal cleaning chemicals have no effect on them. The challenge has been to find a product that’s safe to use and kills the spores. “Now this has been achieved with AntiBak – a powder or tablet diluted in water which is simply sprayed onto surfaces and wiped off, killing C.diff and MRSA as well as a host of other dangerous bacteria and viruses such as Norovirus and Avian Flu.

“The product is non-toxic and non-irritant when mixed with water and is completely biodegradable. “It is also remarkably cost-effective; it costs less than the disinfectant sprays that you might find in your local supermarket.”

“Our product will also be invaluable for residential care and nursing homes as well as veterinary surgeons and farmers.”

All Chemex chemicals and hygiene products are distributed throughout the UK and Europe through a network of franchisees and master franchisees. With over 20 years of experience in their field, Chemex are acknowledged as one of the best in the marketplace- a marketplace worth around £2.5 billion in the UK alone.

A new website has been launched by Chemex to meet the demand from prospective franchisees for information and advice.

The new site provides a range of information for prospective franchisees including franchisee case studies, business updates and resale opportunities.

Chemex was established 22 years ago, has 90 franchisees and is one of the UK’s leading suppliers in the cleaning and hygiene market. Since the business was taken over two years ago by three of the country’s most experienced franchisors, demand for franchises has grown dramatically.

Now prospective franchisees can access www.chemexfranchises.co.uk to see if they have what it takes to win a Chemex franchise. Sean Derrig said: “There is tremendous demand for our franchises because people realise they have a real opportunity to build a successful and rewarding business by being part of a company that has a long-standing track record of success.

“The business is now being run by three former Board members of the British Franchise Association and it has gained a new momentum which prospective franchisees have not been slow to recognise.”
