His true passion was football and he would attend the afterschool football club each week gaining great inspiration from his coach at the time, Karl Fox. So much so, Jack (18) has now begun an apprenticeship scheme with Premier Sport so that he can become a similar role model – and it sees him return to this old school every week in an assistant instructor role as he begins that journey.
Through our apprenticeship scheme we have successfully trained twenty young people in 2013 to become fully qualified sport coaches. Not only that, all have been offered full time employment with the company after the apprenticeship.
Our apprenticeship scheme currently has 34 young people working towards an NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Activity Leadership as well as gaining valuable hands on work experience with Premier Sport.
Speaking about his apprenticeship, Jack said, “I love sport so when I was given the chance to join the apprenticeship scheme I didn’t think twice. I now have a chance for a career in sports coaching, which is a dream come true.
I chose the Premier Sport apprenticeship scheme because I wanted to teach and inspire children as well as offer them opportunities in the same way Premier Sport did for me. It’s been strange returning to the school I attended as a pupil but great knowing I can be a role model to the pupils.”
We hope that many more of the 175,000 children we work with every week can be inspired in the same way Jack has been, because we recognise that young people have so much to offer to the working world.
And the journey doesn’t just stop at employment! One of our current franchised business owners, Ben Eshelby, has been working in schools across Leicestershire for the past two years. Ben is an example of how this scheme changed the life of a young unemployed person. Ben was offered a role as a coach as part of our apprentice scheme. After nearly a year in the job, he was deemed so outstanding, he was offered the opportunity to set up his own business under Premier Sport’s protective wing.
Ben launched his business and is now offering coaching both in and out of school hours as well as holiday camps, lunch and after school clubs with a team of coaches in up to twenty-one different sports under the Premier Sport umbrella. Ben is now an employer himself, recruiting apprentices to start the circle again and bring more activity to more children across the country.
