New migrant worker controls will result in better health care at home!
September 10, 2008
Bluebird Care, the UK’s fastest growing provider of care at home, has welcomed the proposed new regulations affecting migrant workers.
Bluebird fully supports anti-discrimination legislation and recognises the role of EU citizens working legally within the British economy, but says the Government’s new laws to tighten up on employment of non-EU workers will result in improved customer care.
The Petersfield-based company specialises in working with people requiring health care and their families, alongside Social Services, GPs and Primary Care Trusts. Bluebird Care also offers live-in support for people who would like, or who need, a greater level of care provision – making it essential that care workers speak first class English and are able to communicate clearly with the elderly and most vulnerable.
Bluebird Care’s Managing Director Paul Tarsey said, “There has been comment in the news about the care industry being hard-hit by the limiting of migrant workers but, for us, it’s good news."
“For a long time now, we have been championing high quality care and, most importantly, encouraging our staff to look at care as a career rather than just a job. Our long term training and staff development packages have been hugely successful at making sure we have the right people to satisfy the needs of our customers,” said Paul.
With many years’ experience in the care industry, Paul points out that migrant workers often come to the UK for short periods of time, which makes their professional development difficult to achieve and can result in problems created by the language barrier.
“Whilst traditionally there has always been a high number of workers from abroad working within residential care, when you are visiting someone in their own home, the importance of good communication skills becomes vital and hence first-class English is an absolute requirement,” he added.
Paul made his comments in response to new Home Office regulations, restricting the employment of migrant workers from outside the EU and Switzerland. New laws state that people from outside these countries must satisfy strict criteria, and notch up qualifying “points” before being granted work permits.
This new legislation will further strengthen Bluebird Care’s reputation for top-quality, dependable care. The company, based in Charles Street, Petersfield, is confident that this legislation will help to continue to make the Bluebird Care franchise opportunity the most attractive in the fast growing world of social care.
Bluebird Care has built up an impressive number of franchise offices in a relatively short time, and now has 34 offices stretching from Exeter to Canterbury and Limerick to Glasgow.
