Top 100 Global Franchises

Top 100 Global FranchisesThe Wall Street Journal recently published an article stating that many franchise businesses are finding willing investors outside the United States. The article cited such recognisable franchises as McDonald’s and Subway who are all experiencing massive growth overseas.

A significant number of franchises are targeting countries which having a growth middle class such as as India and China.   The publication of this article coinicides with Franchise Direct.co.uk’s sister website, Franchise Direct.com’s publication of the Top 100 Global Franchises Report. The report ranks the world’s top 100 franchises based on factors including financial performance, number of units and corporate citizenship.

Not surprisingly, the world’s favourite franchises top the bill with McDonald’s coming in at the top spot, followed by household names such as Subway, 7Eleven, InterContinental Hotels,  Pizza Hut, KFC and Burger King. However, among the Top 100 are some franchises outside of the US who have grown internationally, such as Spanish No. 10 - Naturhouse and Canadian No. 12 - Tim Horton’s. Also, the list, albeit majorily made up of food franchises, also contains franchises from across a variety of sectors including cleaning, financial, computing, health, children, and home services.

Despite the world’s economy being in turmoil this year, franchising is offering individuals a viable opportunity to start their own business under the security blanket of a tried and trusted business method and a recognisable brand. The Top 100 global franchises lead the way in terms of recognised and developed brand image, a proven business method, a dedication to quality franchisee training and support, marketing and an innovative approach to environmental issues. The video below features interviews with various representatives from the franchise industry speaking about how they believe the industry will or has already responded to the economic downturn. Also, take the time to browse through the list of Top 100 global franchises and be inspired!

Over half of staff are feeling positive about the way that their employer is handling the recession, according to a poll by the Keep Britain Working Foundation. James Reed, the founder of Keep Britain Working has welcomed the figures, saying that the unprecedented flexibility of the UK workforce, underpinned by positive relationships between staff and bosses, has saved jobs and prevented the unemployment figures from rising even faster.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is launching a best practice checklist for police officers to use in an effort to prove their commitment to their local business community, warning that ‘recessionary crime’ against business is on the rise. The FSB is urging police forces to listen to the concerns of small businesses. In a new campaign to raise awareness and improve best practice among police officers, the FSB will be issuing a ‘Listening to the Business Beat’ award to the forces around the country that can demonstrate they are listening to the small firms based on their patch.

The government have announced that they plan on easing the total ban on building in areas threatened by coastal erosion. The British Chambers of Commerce have welcomed this announcement as they believe it to be a creative idea that would help boost the local economies of many coastal areas. These areas would be suitable locations for travel and leisure businesses. To find out more, visit Franchise Direct’s directory of travel and leisure franchise opportunities.

The number of new business accounts opened this year is running ahead of last year’s monthly average, according to figures released by Barclays Bank. Barclays economist, Julian Frankish commented on the figures, saying that all the numbers seem to say the business stock has been relatively robust, much more so than you would have expected if you talked to companies this time last year.
